Arsenal boss Arteta happy with victory at Man Utd: We had to beat history

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was delighted with victory at Manchester United.

A first-half goal from Leandro Trossard saw the Gunners win 1-0 and maintain their Premier League leadership.

Arteta said afterwards: "We needed a result today in a really difficult place. Our history was not in favour of a result today, there was so much at stake and we're happy with the result.

"We started the game really well and were dominant. We scored the goal and I think the goal led to slightly bad things because we started to play too safe, too sideways, too backwards with not enough structure.

"We started to give the ball away in good areas and that is a danger against them. But we defended well and didn't concede too much."

He also stated: "Today we wanted to open that gate. In front of our people [in the home game against Everton] let's live one of the most beautiful days that we have lived together."

On Spurs doing them a favour against Manchester City this week, he added: "We will be sat watching the game and it's true we need the result in order to achieve it.

"In football there is always possibilities."
